The date is September 15, 1040.
You are the Thane of Ross, a Scottish nobleman. Recently, you fought alongside your fellow Scotts to defend King Duncan's claim to the throne. Now you have arrived at Inverness Castle so Duncan can honor one of his valiant generals, Macbeth.
Macbeth is already Thane of Glamis from his father's death, but Duncan has decided to make Macbeth Thane of Cawdor as well. Macdonwald, the previous Thane of Cawdor, sided with Norway in the recent uprising, and stands under heavy judgement.
Meanwhile, Duncan has announced that his eldest son, Malcolm, is Prince of Cumberland and heir to the throne in the event of the King's death.
Outside Inverness
The heavy wooden door to Inverness Castle looms before you to the north, the castle looking ominous in dark grey stone. The road to Forres is to the north-east.
